Situated at the front of the shop, our mascot Zen, the Blue Fronted Amazon parrot, will greet you with their incredible vocabulary, singling, dancing or challenging you to a game of peekaboo.
We provide our close-rung, captive bred birds lots of needed enrichment including a variety of healthy foods, toys and perches to get them working. Commitment, patience and structure is needed if you are looking to welcome a parrot (of any size) into your family
We usually keep a small range of pet birds available in store including hand reared conures, cockatiels, lovebirds, ringnecks and budgies. However, we have a great variety of breeders, local and international, to source certain finches, canaries or other aviary birds on request.
Parrots, whether a budgerigar to an African grey, have a long natural lifespan that many do not realise as there are a lot of factors that usually inhibit a full life. Household amenities such as aerosols, candles and non-stick pans are invisible killers. Exposure to smoke and unventilated, mouldy air can also cause a lot of health issues. The worst thing that shortens a parrots lifespan is a limited diet- birds can become extremely malnourished if not fed their correct requirements. I find that a diet is determined by exercise levels and individual birds so, again, there is no real definitive answer! Another killer that really makes me sad is when an owner swaps their parrot onto ‘healthy’ foods without realising that they will need to be weaned.
There are many commercially available pellets that contain vitamin/fat/mineral contents not available in seed or chop-only diets.
We do not allow and very much condemn the barbaric mutilation of wing-clipping.
